Why Is User Lifecycle Management Important?

As employees join your business, move to different roles and eventually depart, they have to be equipped with all the access rights and privileges they need in order to do their job. Manually tracking and changing the necessary permissions for every user account at your company is both time-consuming and prone to errors.

User lifecycle management allows you automate this process: By implementing a concept known as role-based access control, tenfold will update permissions automatically when an employee is moved to a different role, such as a new department or position. This also ensures that outdated permissions are revoked and users do not accumulate more privileges than is absolutely necessary (Principle of Least Privilege).

Automating Joiner-Mover-Leaver Processes

Staff members that retain old access rights after they change departments or accounts that are left active after employees leave the company pose a security risk. The ULM function ensures that the joiner-mover-leaver (JML) workflows happen automatically and remain transparent. For instance, you can define a transition period for a person’s privileges when they move to a new department. Once the transition period is over, the user’s privileges are revoked automatically. If someone leaves the company altogether, ULM ensures that that person’s user account(s) are locked or deleted automatically.

Modeling User Lifecycle Phases

What happens to privileges when a person takes time off work, e.g. a sabbatical or parental leave? tenfold‘s user lifecycle phases allow you to adjust current user statuses, such as active or locked, without much effort. Adding new statuses such as “parental leave” or “sick leave” is simple and can be linked to customizable actions.

What Is the Provisioning Process?

In tenfold, you can create new users either manually through HR or use the tenfold Import Plugin to conduct this process automatically. The plugin imports the user data from the connected HR software and automatically launches the Joiner-Mover-Leaver process.

Is it Possible to Integrate Customized Corporate Programs?

Yes. tenfold‘s Third-party-integration allows you to include external systems for which there is no standard plugin available into tenfold’s User Lifecycle Management. If desired, you can also add an approval workflow prior to the created request.
